Battle of the Barbies! Round 1: Vintage (Sub Round 2)

I have made a post before referring to the Fashion Model Collection (colloquially referred to by fans and collectors as the Silkstone Collection), but for all that it is officially referred to as a single collection, there are a lot of interesting subthemes within the collection so it merits a revisit.

For example, a number of these dolls (as of course is expected for "she's everything" Barbie) represented a number of different, and largely historically feminine careers.

In line with the fact that the Silkstone collection was very much marketed to adult collectors, some of these are also a little racy.

I've been looking at these for a long time trying to figure out which one is my favourite, and I genuinely can't decide. I think perhaps I am going to give an honourable mention to Prima Ballerina Barbie, who is not following a traditional career, but who looks amazing doing it.

it reminds me of this hot pink barbie dress that was drenched in glitter and had this LED starburst on the top, i had a doll of it! i want to make more Pink Diamond outfits based on that starburst dress.

Barbie Girls: Elina and Sunburst

In keeping with the disability theme for my modern Fairtopia, Sunburst uses an insulin pump(the back of her upper arm) and she also has a severe food allergy to fish and shell fish (like..... Sparkle fairies can't touch water.... get it....)

Small Muder Drones Headcanon

J likes dolls.

Not the character Doll; like actual toys and figurines often played with or collected by children and adults alike.

We… honestly don’t a lot of her character in the canon series, and what we do see is kind of limiting. But, we do get some additional information of what she’s like in the two product launch commercials she stars in. and what do we see her doing in both of them?

Play with dolls. Like, look at this and try to convince me she isn’t at least interested in them.

While she does have her strict, adult-like business persona, in the ads we do see hints of her being just as much of a goob and having weird interests as much as the other drones. She has an edgy OC that probably rivals one of Uzi’s for crying out loud. I think that, back in the manor, she delegated taking care of any dolls or toys Tessa had to herself and took it very seriously. And potentially as a disassembly drone, she fixed up any dolls she came across but didn’t take them back with her to the spire. Got to keep that professional look, and professional robots don’t play with or have dolls.

She’d probably also know some things about doll history and, assuming there’s at least archived versions of YouTube videos, watched a lot of doll designs and redesigns and commentary on different lines and such. She’s probably know about and have respect for some of the business savvy doll creators like Ruth Handler, creator of Barbie, as well as the other historical creators that were erased from history thanks to Handler and Mattel’s ruthlessness (pun intended); like Beatrice Alexander, founder of Madame Alexander which is still made today, Jennie Graves, and Nancy Ann Abbott. She’d probably even like a few special plushy dolls as well, though probably not as much as the fashion or action ones.

I’ve just been thinking a lot about her recently, and I had this idea when I was thinking of her playing with the J and Cynessa animatez in the recent merch ad. It wouldn’t leave my mind and now you can try and pry this theory from my cold dead hands.
